FinTech North to platform region’s scaling successes in upcoming Newcastle conference

FinTech North will return to the North East on July 1st 2025, celebrating the region's position as a nationally significant FinTech hub, with the day’s proceedings also shining a spotlight on the rise in FinTechs delivering real social impact.

The fifth annual Newcastle conference will take place at Wylam Brewery in the historic Palace of Arts, Exhibition Park. Other key themes of the day include scaling, inward and outbound expansion, and data and AI. Among the day’s speakers are the CEOs of Atom Bank and Kani Payments – two of the biggest FinTech brands the North East has produced.

The iconic venue, combining industrial heritage with modern innovation and creativity, provides the perfect backdrop for platforming the North East's evolving FinTech specialisms and global outlook.

Whitecap Consulting’s latest North East FinTech Strategy report forecasted FinTech in the region to contribute £431m GVA by 2025. The number of FinTech firms in the North East is expected to reach 81 this year, up from 45 in 2022.

This year the Newcastle conference will be hosted in partnership with brand sponsors Mastercard, networking sponsors Kani, exhibition sponsors The North East Combined Authority, and evening social sponsors Google Cloud.

Dedicated sessions will explore how to further unlock FinTech potential both in the North East and nationally, AI’s role in that journey, and sustainable finance. In a candid conversation with Maven Capital Partners – which recently announced a multi-million investment into Newcastle FinTech – the leaders of Kani Payments will share insights into their journey post-Series A fundraising, offering practical advice on next steps for any startups in the room.

Other speakers include Mastercard, the Department for Business and Trade, North Star Ventures and Innovate Finance.

The renowned Dragons-Den style pitching showcase will return for two sessions. One of the two showcases is dedicated to social impact, promising to explore how the sector can scale sustainably while aligning social and environmental impact with commercial success. The other session will platform those leading on data and AI innovation in the North East.

Showcase speakers so far include Keepl Social, peer-to-peer tipping platform thankyü, cross-border financial services specialist Ndewo and tech specialist law firm Percy Crow Davis & Co Ltd.

Joe Roche, General Manager at FinTech North comments:

We're bringing together the best of local innovation with national industry leaders to explore everything from AI and data to sustainable finance.

"With major players like Atom Bank and Kani Payments, as well as rising stars across data, and purpose-driven FinTech, the North East continues to punch above its weight on the international FinTech scene. We can’t wait to showcase all of the region’s shining lights.”
